Dates: 2nd Dec - 3rd Dec, 2019.


Reporting Time : 7:45 am (Registration Starts).
Venue for Reporting: Room 501, Dept. of CSE, Bharti Building, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi. 110016.
Note: Each shortlisted candidate will be required to appear for the test/interview on one of the two days above (details below).

Our PhD/MSR selection will be a two-stage process with details described below.


Stage 1:The first stage will consist of an online programming test where you will be asked to write simple programs in a language of your choice among the following set of languages: C/C++ , Java and Python. Your program is supposed to compile and generate the expected output, to score in programming questions. Those clearing the first stage will be asked for appear for Stage 2 on the same day.
Stage 2: This will consist of a written (subjective type) test followed by an in-person interview. Stage 2 will consist of basic as well as advanced set of questions testing your knowledge of core computer science subjects including (but not limited to) Data Structures and Algorithms, Probability and Linear algebra and Combinatorics, Boolean Algebra, Operating systems, Architecture and Networks etc. Additionally, the test/interview will consist of questions testing your basic aptitude/reasoning skills. The test/interview process will also be geared towards checking your overall research aptitute, your knowledge of concepts in your proposed area of research, and your ability to do fundamental research in the area of Computer Science and Engineering.

Here is the rough timeline of how these stages will be conducted.


Stage 1: Programming test. From 8:15 am to 10:00 am. Only those qualifying Stage 1 will be asked to appear for Stage 2 with details below.

Stage 2: Written test/Interview. There will be a written test in the morning tentatively from 10:45 am - 11:45 am. This written test will be non-qualifying (i.e., will not be used as a filter by itself). Followed by this, candidates will be appearing for an in-person interview starting at 12:00 noon. These interviews might continue late into the evening, so candidates should plan accordingly.


Each of the above two stages will be conducted in 2 cycles. Each candidate meeting the shortlisting criteria will be required to appear for one of the two cycles. Details/timings of each cycle are described below. Each candidate should plan on staying there for the entire day depending on their selection cycle.

NOTE: A candidate should appear for the selection process if and only if he/she meets the shortlisting criteria.

If you could not fill the online form for some reason, but you satisfy the shortlisting criteria as above, you are welcome to appear as a walk-in candidate. In this case, please fill the following form with your details (this will be closed by Nov 27, 2019).

Accommodation Facility

Candidates coming for Test / Interview for admission to the various programmes in the Institute will be provided accommodation in the Hostels on sharing basis on payment of Rs. 400/- per day (lodging & boarding) as detailed below. The bedding is not provided and the candidates have to make their own arrangement for bedding. The Payment shall be made by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of:
